OUR IMPACT.

ABOUT first chance u

First Chance U was founded in 2020 with a clear vision: chances today, leaders tomorrow. What began as an idea from Jamar Taylor and Therren Wilburn grew into a volunteer‑driven foundation that creates real impact through athletics, education, and community support.

Jamar’s journey as a student‑athlete shaped the early direction of FCU. He grew up in San Diego, graduated from Helix High School, and went on to Boise State University, where he earned academic and athletic honors before being drafted into the NFL. His experience in sports, along with his passion for youth development, inspired the creation of a foundation that offers more than training or competition. It offers access, exposure, mentorship, resources, and community.

Today, First Chance U is powered by a committed committee and a growing network of supporters. FCU has expanded far beyond its beginnings. We serve families through holiday drives, support classrooms through teacher grants, host development events like the DB Academy, award scholarships, and create spaces where students can learn, grow, and build confidence.

Our mission is to introduce personal and professional growth opportunities through athletics, community building, and education. We believe every student deserves a first chance, and we work year‑round to make that possible.
